The setup checklist
New accounts start empty, and it is not always obvious which of Itefy's features are worth setting up first. The setup checklist keeps track of that for you.
You will find it behind the wand icon in the top bar, to the left of the notification bell. The number on the icon is how many tasks are still outstanding.
What is on the list
The checklist opens on 1 of 6 done — creating your Itefy account counts as the first task, and it is already ticked.
| Task | What it means |
|---|---|
| Create an Itefy account | Done the moment you signed up. |
| Add your equipment | Register your items — import a spreadsheet, or add them one at a time. |
| Check something out | Record who has an item, or reserve one for later. |
| Invite a colleague | Give the people you work with their own sign-in. |
| Report an issue or log a service | Keep faults and maintenance against the item they belong to. |
| Keep your account | Choose a plan before your trial ends. |
Add your equipment counts up to 20 items rather than stopping at your first one. That is deliberate: equipment management only starts being useful once your real inventory is in, and the fastest way there is usually importing a spreadsheet you already have.
The task you are on sits at the top of the list. Anything you have finished collapses into a completed section at the bottom, so the list stays short as you work through it — click that heading to expand it.
Show me where
Click any task in the list and a pointer appears on the dashboard showing where that task is done — the + button on a quick-action card, or the entry in the main menu under Settings. It works for finished tasks too, which is useful when you want to go back to something and can't remember where it lived.
Each pointer carries a Learn more link that opens the matching tutorial in a new tab, so you can read the long version without losing your place.
Pointers only appear when you ask for one — when you open the checklist, or when you click a task in it. Click anywhere else to dismiss the pointer; click the task again to bring it back.
Progress is shared, the list is yours
Progress belongs to the account, not to you personally. If a colleague imports the equipment, that task shows as done for everyone — which is the point, since everyone still benefits from knowing where those controls are.
The list itself is filtered to what you are allowed to do. If your user has no permission to manage users, for example, Invite a colleague is not on your list at all, and your totals will read something like 1 of 4 instead of 1 of 6. Account owners see everything. See User permissions for what governs this.
Getting rid of it
The checklist hides itself once every task is done, including starting a subscription.
If you would rather not use it, click the × in the top right of the checklist and it will not come back — that also switches off the pointers. This preference is stored in the browser you are using, per account, so signing in from a different browser or device will show it again.
Working through it properly
The Set up Itefy from scratch tutorial covers the same ground in order, with the structural work — types, locations and categories — that is worth doing before you start adding items.
