QR codes

A label on the thing is what turns a phone into a scanner. The QR tab on an item screen is where the two are joined.

Seeing the code

Open the item and choose the QR tab. If the item already has a code, it is shown there.

Assigning a label to an item

Stick a printed label on the equipment, then:

  1. Open the item.
  2. QR tab → assign.
  3. Scan the label.

The code is now this item's. Scanning it from anywhere opens this item.

Blank labels are printed from the web app — a sheet at a time, in whatever size suits the equipment.

NFC tags

Where the phone and browser support it, a tag can be written the same way.

Permissions

Assigning a code is the QR codes permission. Without it you can still scan every label in the account and open what it points at — you simply cannot claim an unused label for an item. If that is the case, the assign option is not shown.

Replacing a damaged label

Print a new one and assign it to the item the same way. The item keeps its history; only the code changes.
