Transfer account ownership
Every Itefy account has exactly one owner — usually whoever created it. When that person changes roles or leaves the company, ownership can be handed to a colleague without contacting support.
Before you start
The new owner must already be a member of this account, and must have confirmed their email address. If they are not on the account yet, add them first and wait until they have confirmed the invitation.
Only the current owner can start a transfer. Administrators cannot.
How to transfer
- Go to Account settings for the account (from the account list, choose Manage), and open the Ownership tab.
- Choose who should take over. Only members who can actually take it are listed — anyone who cannot is shown underneath with the reason.
- Add a message for them if you like.
- Confirm it is you, with your password or by signing in with Google.
- Type TRANSFER and start it.
Itefy then emails you a link to confirm. When you confirm, the new owner gets their own email, and ownership moves the moment they accept it.
That is four steps on purpose: your password, a link to your inbox, a link to theirs, and their acceptance while signed in. Nothing moves until all four are done, and you can cancel at any point before that.
What changes for the previous owner
- You stop being the owner. Owner rights bypass every permission setting in the account, and you no longer have that.
- You keep access. You stay on the account as an administrator — equipment, bookings and history are all still there.
- Your receipts and invoices for this account move with ownership. They appear under the new owner's profile from then on, not yours. Download anything you need first.
- The payment card on file does not move. If it is your personal card, remove it from the Billing tab before you hand over.
- If you are leaving the account entirely, the new owner removes you afterwards, from Settings → Users. An owner cannot remove themselves, which is why ownership has to move first.
What the new owner takes on
- Owner rights across the account.
- Responsibility for the subscription and for paying it.
- The receipts and invoices for the account.
- The payment card and billing address as they were — worth checking both, since they may still point at somebody who has left.
Cancelling, declining, and expiry
The current owner can cancel from the Ownership tab at any time before the transfer completes. The person receiving it can decline from their email. Either way both of you are told, and nothing changes.
A transfer expires after 7 days if it is not completed. You can send the email again from the Ownership tab — doing so replaces the earlier link, so use the newest email.
A transfer also stops on its own if something makes it unsafe: the recipient is removed from the account, their email address changes, or the account is cancelled. You are both emailed the reason.
If the owner has already left
If nobody can sign in as the current owner, self-service cannot help — there is no mailbox to confirm from. Contact us and we can move ownership for you. We will ask you to confirm who should receive it. The change is recorded in the account's ownership history the same way a self-service transfer is, so you can see exactly what happened and when.
History
The Ownership tab lists every transfer attempted for the account, including the ones that were cancelled or expired, with who it went from and to.
